For whatever reason, downtown Miami is often overshadowed by its more flamboyant neighbor Miami Beach. This is probably the fault of the democrats. It is also a right shame, as downtown Miami offers more to the discerning nightlife connoisseur in one district than many continents do on the whole of their steppe-like expanses. Featuring fantastic restaurants, nightclubs, and bars (as well as a convenient downtown location), downtown Miami can supply anything you might be looking for in a nightlife destination.
The downtown area of Miami is easy to access by the Metrorail system, but this system doesn’t connect to many of the other more interesting districts in Miami (such as Miami Beach, Key Biscayne, and the Island of Lost Souls), so if you want to remain mobile, it would be wise to hire a cab, or better yet, a limousine from Millenium Limo. The Millenium guys are fantastic, and offer a dizzying array exotic limos to please even the most discerning palate.
Transportation secure, you are ready to hit the town. Everywhere you look, you will find a restaurant, bar, or nightclub. I’ll give you a few of my personal favorites to look for:
* As far as restaurants in the area, downtown is where you will find my favorite restaurant in all of Miami. If you have never had it, Ethiopian food is exotic and delicious. Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant offers not only Ethiopian, but also Moroccan and Caribbean fare as well. The food is exotic and delicious (and moderately priced), with great drinks to boot. Check out the rum-cakes for desert.
* If you’re in the mood for libations (and who among us are not?), check out the Noir Bar. Great drinks and decent tapas, combined with a terrace pool, make this a good place to look into.
* For dancing, there are quite a few clubs, depending on your preferences. If you like bright lights and bowel-jarring sound systems, head over to Club Space. Two levels and three rooms powered by a Dynacord sound system make Club Space one of the most exciting clubs in Miami. Metropolis Downtown is another venue you shouldn’t miss, featuring five different rooms that all have their own style and feel. My favorite is the Viking Room (Note: There is no Viking Room).
Well, that should be more than enough to get you started in downtown Miami. Happy travels, and happy eating/drinking/dancing/debauchery.
